Our
Story

On January 17, 1999, Brother Gerardo Reyes became a part of a

distinguishable family known as Sigma Lambda Beta international

Fraternity Inc. at CSUDH (Tau Chapter) and went on to continue, not only his education, but his search for an elite group of gentlemen to expand  thebrotherhood at CSULB. To find this group, there was no rush. It took until October of 2000 to actually begin concrete interest meetings. On November 10, 2000, with the help of Brother David Chavez and Brother Robert Reese, the Long Beach SLB interest group was declared and congratulated.

Certain obstacles had to be set forth in order for the expansion to be

obtained. Certain information needed to be acquired and teamwork within the group had to take place. In order for the National Headquarters of Sigma Lambda Beta to accept this group, CSULB itself had to agree upon welcoming a new fraternity onto it's campus. Patience became a major virtue through this time of wait. The group's first step of hard work and dedication paid off in January 2001 with recognition into CSULB by the beginning of the spring semester.

As much work was needed to be accepted into a new school, much work was needed to be accepted into a new family of brothers. The group entered a journey that would distinguish those with wants from those with needs. As 7 started, 7 ended this journey as one entity on May 6, 2001 as the CSULB Founding Line, which consisted of Founding Brothers:

1. Cristian Tamayo

2. Jeffrey Carrillo

3. Claudio Garcia

4. Daniel Luna

5. Anthony Saucedo

6. Carlos Rosas

7. Gerardo Gomez.

As newfound Brothers, business had to be taken care of. In order to

formalize the colony, elections were held and the first executive committee was elected. President was Founding Brother Gerardo Gomez, Vice-President was Founding Brother Daniel Luna, Secretary was Founding Brother Claudio Garcia, and Treasurer was Founding Brother Christian Tamayo. With thanks to all the brothers, the CSULB colony of Sigma Lambda Beta was off to a great start. Goals had to be set for it was only the beginning and as for the gentlemen of Sigma Lambda Beta, the end was sure never to be seen as long as CSULB stands.

As much struggle was put forth in order to establish a colony, much

dedication was needed in establishing a chapter. The ideals of the fraternity were embedded in the hearts of the Founding Line and were kept in mind when recruiting for potential members. As Brothers that were educated to be humble and have heart, the Founding Line had their expectations set on individuals that can only be the best and go on to be known as our Almighty Alpha Line. Recruiting quality over quantity became priority, while selecting those with heart became a simple factor. In the Fall of 2001, a group of 7 gentlemen was formed, which would go on to prove themselves worthy of such an honorable family. This group was also aware of risks and obstacles that needed to take place yet their trust, perseverance, and mental focus helped them continue with and overcome the educational process that binds our family. Proudly, this elite group of men then became Long Beach State Colony's Alpha Line. Because of this new expansion, which brought us to a total of 14, on February 23, 2002, our love of Lambda Beta was rewarded by our much anticipated chapter status. As our blood will always flow purple, Long Beach State University has been etched in stone and will forever be known as home to Sigma Lambda Beta's Kappa Beta Chapter.

As the Betas at LBSU were being noticed more and more, recruitment

became a year round task. Many expressed interest in our family yet 5

quality men expressed interest in our ideals. In the spring of 2002, the

tradition, dedication, and heart that is synonymous with the Kappa Beta

Chapter was passed on to these 5 worthy individuals comprising what is

now known as our Beta Line. These individuals are proving themselves a great asset to our chapter and signify the continuing commitment to

prosperity, growth, and excellence that our fraternity is known for.

*2003 proved to be a challenging year as the Brothers of the Kappa Beta chapter set out to distinguish themselves on the CSULB campus and in their community. Numerous community service events with differentiating themes and purposes were performed, as well as the commitment to the continued growth of the chapter by recruiting quality men. In the fall semester of 2003, the Kappa Beta chapter proudly accepted the three gentlemen of the Gamma Line into their Brotherhood.

The hard work and perseverance of the young and flourishing Kappa Beta chapter gained the attention and recognition of the entire fraternity when it was awarded the prestigious 2003 International Chapter of the Year Award at Founders in Houston, Texas.

The gentlemen of the Kappa Beta chapter have been recognized and

distinguished on a national level, and will continue to obliterate all barriers and obstacles to maintain its level of quality that sets Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Inc. apart from the rest, in a class of its

own...second to none.
